Lamar East Class Brings Washington DC To Virtual Reality

After receiving a grant that awarded the Lamar EAST Program with Virtual Reality equipment (including a sophisticated digital capture camera, a computer designed to handle VR, software for authoring virtual environments, and peripherals that allow for the full virtual effects), students were eager to create a virtual tour of major significance.

Lamar East Lab wanted a place that thrived with amusement, history, and breath-taking beauty. Washington D.C. exceeded their expectations with its national monuments, beautiful architecture, and political icons.  Through this distinctive virtual tour, Lamar students and the public will be able to access timeless monuments and memorials such as the Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Jefferson Memorials and the Washington Monument.

Also included in the tour will be pictures of the metro, Arlington Cemetery, the Air and Space Museum, and some of Washington’s extravagant landscaping. With this tour, Lamar EAST hopes to enlighten students and the general public with the continually growing possibilities of technology and offer citizens a chance to explore American history from their own homes.
