Welcome to the VRDL Mesa Verde Sample Tour.
This staff created project simply showcases a bit of what
the VRDL can do and offers a taste of the possibilities to
wet the students' appetite.
We'll touch on just a few highlights and features of the
Mesa Verde Virtual Tour.
The tour was quickly created with VRDL included media elements
from the Virtual Vacations Title Mesa
Verde - The Mysteries of the Ancient Anasazi Culture.
Media from two other titles Hoover
Dam - The Eighth Wonder of the World and Machu
Picchu - Incan Civilization Revealed are also included
in the Sampler portion of the VRDL.
Maps are an integral part of the VRDL and are a breeze to
implement. Simply scan or create a map-type representation
(perhaps using the included version of Photoshop) then drag
and drop your creation into the tour authoring software. Its
really that simple!
The tour makes good use of the technique we call a "Still
Pano creation." It is a method of creating a menu system
and a multimedia content delivery vehicle to be served from
within the tour itself. This completely opens the creative
floodgates making room for more than just Panoramic environments.
Students can include more detailed information in the way
of text, images, object movies, narration, and sound effects
all encapsulated within the virtual environments they create!
Additionally, as shown in Node 3 of the tour, you can link
to external files, appications and media to include elements
of a project that are not part of the tour. For example, linking
to a GIS application for a satellite view or SketchUp to Illustrate
future design plans for a specific location - or both! The
possiblilites
are truly limitless with this type of open-ended functionality.
